Beekeeping has become a very important industry. Honeybees provide humans with honey and bees wax. They are also very important to US agriculture due to their pollination. There are three types of colonists in a bee hive. The first colonist is the worker bee. The worker bees search for food. Worker bee food consists of pollen and nectar from flowers. They also work to build, clean and protect the hive. Worker bees are females that have yet to develop sexually. Another colonist is the queen bee. Her job is the lay eggs to create the future generations of bees. A queen becomes a queen by being fed a special "royal jelly". Another function of the queen is to control the hive behavior by creating chemicals that guide the worker bees. The final colonist of a honey bee hive is the male bees or drones. They only live in the hive during the spring and summer.
